Featuring as one of the Clerkenwell Design Week Projects, the Emotion Maker, a joint project of Marco Barotti, Architettura Sonora and Plastique Fantastique, is a giant inflatable structure sitting predominantly in the centre of St John Square in London; the creative structure works as a public sphere that manipulates sound to create the emotion of a classical concert.

Music, architecture and soundscape united in a public sphere to condense common prejudices concerning space and time. The compressed essence of an emotion-generating machine becomes tangible in this experience: an unique ten minutes concert for two people.

The concert:
The concert is a democratic collective composition based on emotional improvisation.
one by one, 100 musicians and performing artists from different backgrounds had the chance to be part of this experience, giving their personal interpretation of 8 emotions in 8 minutes of time.
The whole composition is stored into the software that picks randomly one track for every selected instrument out of the 100 prerecorded tracks.
No concert is ever like another.
There is an almost endless amount of possible compositions to generate.
How does it work:
On the left side of the structure you will find the categories – here, you will take your shoes off and chose the instruments you prefer for your personal emotion maker experience. From the 13 categories you can pick a maximum of 5 instruments + 1 special guest (press only one button per category).
After you established the selection press ‘go!’, get inside the emotion maker – and enjoy your experience!
